My Life Before Bariatric Surgery

Life was cumbersome and slow. I always felt like I was one cheesecake away from a heart attack. I had no energy, drive, ambition or desire to do anything. I had trouble tying my own shoes and would be out of breath doing so.

My legs, feet, and knees always hurt me. I was diabetic, had sleep apnea, no stamina, and high blood pressure.  I was always in pain. My breathing was labored with the slightest exertion. I could never buy the clothes that I liked—they didn’t fit. I always had to shop at the big guy store. I couldn’t join my friends when they were going hiking or playing sports. I couldn’t go to amusement parks or ride go-karts.

Making the Decision

My failing health, low energy, constant pain, and the inability to do the things I wanted to do were taking a toll on me. I was getting depressed.  I decided I needed to do something to turn my life around.

My Barix Clinics Experience

I remember the warm feeling I had upon arriving at my first meeting with the staff and surgeon. Almost instantly, I felt like I belonged at Barix Clinics and nowhere else. My surgeon was so enthusiastic and really cared about me and my weight loss journey. In fact, every staff member treated me more like a family member than a patient.

How My Life Has Changed

My life after surgery has been amazing. I feel like I am in my youth again. I am so active and participate in all sorts of exercise and sports. I bought a season pass to my favorite amusement park. I now find myself parking far away from the entrances to places I visit so I can walk further just because I can. I can now go into department stores and pick up a shirt or a pair of pants right off the rack. I have stamina, energy, and lots of motivation to overcome any obstacle that is in front of me. I know now that I will be able to dance at my grandchildren's weddings if and when that does happen. Happy is how I feel all the time. I am loving and living life to the fullest. I could not be happier.

To Those Considering Bariatric Surgery

Do it, live it, love it, and love yourself. I encourage all of you who are considering this surgery to not think about the food you will miss, but instead think of it the things you won't miss when you become half your size. Eventually you can eat the things you like in moderation. Your stomach and body will tell you when you have had enough and you will feel full. Do it. What are you waiting for?
